THE US FESTIVAL SEPTEMBER 1982

Glen Helen Regional Park
San Bernardino, California

Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple compuuters,  teamed up with promoter Bill Gram to host this three day event in 1982.
With an estimated 670,000 fans in attendance, it's plan was to feature a satelite hookup between the  United States and Soviet Union concert attendees. It was promoted as a matter of "goodwill" between the citizens of the Comunist and Democratic countries by combining rock music and technology.  The Cars took their turn on stage Saturday, September 4, 1982 with bands like Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, The Kinks, and Eddie Money to name a few other participants.

THE CARS WIN 1984
MTV MUSIC VIDEO AWARD

The Cars won Video of the Year  of 1984 with their efforts for "You Might Think", which also gained an additional  nine awards combined at two other awards ceremonies that year.  One feature of the video that made it so special was that it was one of the first that utilized computer graphics (known as CG today) , a relitively new medium for the video industry at the time.
